Pumped up: A look at how the price of gas has risen

You possibly really do not want a fancy Domo chart to inform you that gas has gotten quite high priced. But we went in advance and imported weekly regular gasoline charges from the U.S. Vitality Info Agency in any case. In performing so, we also get to examine one particular of my preferred new attributes in Domo: Intelligent Textual content, which allows you insert dynamic text inside both notebook cards and in the title for any card in Domo. So, when you find anything other than “United States” from the drop-down menu beneath “Geo Name” (under), it will also improve the chart future to it (“United States-Common Weekly Fuel Prices”) to whatsoever area, condition, or city you selected.

In the same way, the time time period will transform from “Last 30 Years” when I select a distinct day vary, or spotlight a particular portion in the line graph. “The Min Gas Price” and “Max Gas Price” textual content use Domo dynamic summary figures, which enable me to insert metrics to my narrative. These are terrific tools for ensuring that people have the suitable context even as they self-provide with unique filters and drills.

You will also detect listed here that we are experimenting with a narrative characteristic (nonetheless in pre-beta), which dynamically generates insights about a specified card in Domo. I really like this function since it will help convey new insights out of info in a narrative format. As you filter for a new geography or a distinctive time interval, the narrative refreshes with new insights. Quite darn amazing, if you ask me.

Because we released “Domo on Info,” we have been quite centered on U.S. data. Which is substantially to the chagrin of some of my colleagues about the planet, but it simply just has to do with the challenge in getting metrics from other governments, which tend to be good at supplying cost-free details but negative at compiling throughout international locations. That claimed, for this write-up, we were being ready to uncover some information and facts on international gasoline selling prices by way of the World wide Petrol Costs web site. The information is not offered for free, but does give us some fantastic context. For occasion, although fuel in the U.S. is extra than $4 for each gallon, it is nearly $11 in Hong Kong and only a little bit considerably less than that in the Netherlands. Yikes.

We will function to provide much more worldwide details to these pages in coming posts. Oh, and if you are wondering when the previous time fuel was under $1 per gallon in the U.S., the answer is March 1999. How I long for individuals times!
